Recommended for audiences 12+. Prima Facie is a one-woman show
that deals with the important theme of sexual assault and how the
legal system deals with these cases. A sexual assault is described
within the play. The actor is fully clothed at all times. The scene is
stylised and is treated with sensitivity. There are court scenes
including the character Tessa taking the stand as a witness.
Presented by:
ITR in partnership with Kavanah Productions and Brave Theatre
Something has to change.
Tessa is a criminal defence lawyer at the top of her game and is loving it: defending, cross-examining, and playing the rules of the law to win. But when the tables turn she finds herself at the mercy of the very system that she has dedicated her life to. Shadows of doubt are illuminated, making us question, ‘Who is our legal system really serving?’
Winner of the 2023 Olivier Award for Best Play, this vital, witty, gripping one-woman show had a sell out season at Circa Theatre, Wellington. Starring Mel Dodge and directed by Lyndee-Jane Rutherford, Prima Facie is a phenomenal production that continues an urgent conversation for Aotearoa New Zealand.
There will be post-show Q&A sessions.
